Pentecost is Sunday, May 20th. The day commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit in the form of flames to the Apostles, as recorded in the New Testament in Acts 2. The Holy Spirit allowed the apostles to speak in other languages, and they started preaching the word of Jesus to the Jews who were in Jerusalem for the feast of Shavuot (Pentecost).
Many Christians recognize the Descent of the Holy Spirit as the birth of the Church. If you can, try to wear red on May 20. If you would like to help “decorate” the church with geraniums, there is a sign up sheet outside of the office.
During the month of May we will be having a name your favorite hymn nomination. Index cards will be available to write the hymn number of your five favorite hymns. The top five will serve as our Gathering Hymns for July!
